Claude Code usage limits explained
How Claude Code limits work on Pro, Max and Team: the rolling 5-hour window, weekly caps, the shared pool with Claude chat, and what happens when you hit the limit.
There is no fixed message count
Anthropic does not publish a number of messages. Limits reset on a rolling five-hour session window, and paid plans add weekly limits on top. How far you get depends on conversation length, the model and the features you use.
One pool for chat and code
Claude Code is included in all paid plans and shares the same limits as the rest of your plan, so terminal work and chats draw from one pool. A long chat session can eat into your coding time.
How the plans compare
Free does not include Claude Code. Pro ($20/month, or $17/month billed yearly) gives at least 5x the usage of Free per 5-hour session. Max gives 5x or 20x the usage of Pro per session; Max 5x is $100/month and includes $100/month of API credits, Max 20x includes $200/month of API credits (its price is shown only as "from $100").
On Team, standard seats ($25/month, $20 yearly) give more than Pro, and premium seats ($125, $100 yearly) give 5x a standard seat.
When you hit the limit
You can wait for the window to reset, move to a higher plan, or on paid plans turn on usage credits, which bill at standard API rates. For heavy sessions Anthropic also suggests pay-as-you-go API credits through a Console account. Check where you stand in Settings > Usage.
