Replit checkpoints and Agent costs explained
What a Replit checkpoint is, how effort-based pricing decides its cost, what Free Mode covers and how to cap your spend.
What a checkpoint is
When you chat with Agent in Build Mode, it creates a checkpoint when it completes work on your request. Simple requests like bug fixes typically cost less than complex builds; a full feature is bundled into one checkpoint that may cost more, reflecting the total effort.
What your plan covers
Core ($20/month, $18 yearly) and Pro ($100/month, $90 yearly) include monthly credits ($20 and $100) that cover Agent and other cloud services such as published apps, storage and databases. Pro credits roll over for two months. Free Mode covers no-cost everyday Agent work within its allowance, and Replit asks for confirmation before a paid action starts.
Hidden extras
Some Agent features call third-party APIs (such as Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini) behind the scenes; these are billed at the provider's public API rate and deducted from your credits. In the paid path, Plan Mode can perform billable reasoning even when it does not change code.
Cap your spend
Hover the usage icon in the Agent tab to see a checkpoint's cost, check the usage dashboard (data can take up to 30 minutes to appear), and set usage alerts and hard budget limits on the Billing page. Credit packs are discounted on larger purchases.
