Why big projects burn tokens

Bolt says most token usage comes from syncing your project's files to the AI: the larger the project, the more tokens each message uses. Pro includes 10M tokens a month ($25 monthly, $18/month billed yearly) with rollover.

Bolt's official tips

1. Plan before you build, and use Plan mode to discuss without changing code; it uses fewer tokens than Build mode.

2. Use the Standard agent for average tasks and save the Max agent for complex ones.

3. Keep prompts specific: point at files or functions, not the whole codebase.

4. Use buttons instead of prompts: Publish and Version History don't use tokens.

5. Add features one at a time and test after each.

6. Turn on connectors only when you need them; they add context.

7. Don't click Attempt fix over and over; step in or switch to Plan mode.

8. Ask Bolt to add error handling and logging when stuck in a loop.

9. Clear context and reduce project size (remove unused files, split large files).
